The Trump brand continues to take a huge hit because of the campaign, so the Trump Organization has decided to launch a new brand of hotels that will NOT carry his name. From Bloomberg’s Hui-Yong Yu & James Nash: “ Scion, a line of hotels that will target younger clients , was unveiled last month in a press release that quoted three different Trump Organization executives, but not the candidate. The new brand is planned for use at city and resort locations … intended to appeal ‘to a new and different type of guest in more locations around the globe.’ He’s now a polarizing figure. When he was putting his hotels together, he wasn’t,’ said [consultant Bruce Himelstein]. ‘There’s definitely an impact.’”
So, it’s pretty much going to be all Boomers checking into these, right?

Sorry - I’m happy to do that and delete this post, just saw “Scion” while reading through the news and thought it was comical.

Wait a second, that’s a real thing? “Scion Hotels”? Not you being snarky? Come on, you made that up, right?

I’m sure Toyota is not making Scions, but they still own the trademark. Just like GM still owns Pontiac and Oldsmobile.

Not this time! But I could see how you’d think that.

Yea the Bloomberg line just didn’t register until I read some of the comments.

I would think that somebody who was the scion of an infamous slum lord would avoid directing attention at who their father was.

I guess since no one’s going to mistake buying a car with checking into a hotel, them using the name is okay? Not sure how all that works, but clearly brand names are used repeatedly in different industries. I just find it incomprehensible that they’d want to use a name that just failed fairly spectacularly and publicly. Is it possible that they picked the name without having any knowledge that the Scion car brand ever even existed (and without doing a simple Google search to see if anyone else had used the name for a business)? Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past them.

I suspect in the case of Scion it’s a bit different because it’s a word that existed long before the company
